Once we undergo a hair transplant, it is very common to wonder how long it will take for the grafted hair to grow. The truth is that we must be patient, as it is a process that requires time. The hair goes through different phases until it reaches the final result of the hair transplant. Below we explain the estimated time to see these results, as well as the care necessary to optimize the process.

The growth of the grafted hair varies slightly from normal hair growth and it is not immediate, but will go through different stages, starting with what is known as Shock Loss, subsequently beginning the anagen or resting phase, the stage of progressive growth until, finally, the final results are appreciated.
Shock loss is a normal process that occurs between 3 and 4 weeks after hair surgery. During this stage, the grafted hair, and sometimes also the native hair, falls out abruptly. It may seem worrying, but it is a natural phenomenon that occurs due to the stress that the scalp suffers during the intervention. Although the hair falls out, the hair follicles remain, so the new hair will grow back and stronger. Once this stage is over, the hair will begin to grow out progressively.
Hair growth after hair transplant surgery takes some time. Specifically, during the first 3 months or so, no change is usually noticed, and hair loss may even occur during the Shock Loss phase. It is from this time onwards that hair begins to grow progressively, with a significant change being seen after 6 months of surgery.
The first results after hair transplantation are noticeable once the Shock Loss phase has been overcome, which is part of the process and indicates that the evolution is favourable. After 6 months, we can really see a real change. At this point, the hair is at approximately 50% of its growth.
It is after one year, 18 months in cases of crown, when we will be able to appreciate the final results.During this period, hair growth will have stabilized and will have a much more natural appearance.
To ensure proper hair growth after a hair transplant, it is essential to follow the postoperative medical instructions such as keeping the area clean and moisturized, avoiding direct sun exposure, not handling the grafts aggressively and not practicing sports during the first few months, among others. By following these precautions, the hair transplant will develop successfully and you will be able to enjoy stronger and thicker hair in the estimated time.
