Hair grafting is an intervention that greatly changes the patient's life, making him / her regain self-confidence, repopulating areas that were already considered lost and enhancing the protective function that hair has on the scalp.

That is why today we bring you the experience of Francisco, one of our patients who has undergone hair graft surgery at our clinic in Galicia, in Pontevedra.

The decision to have a hair graft

As Francisco told us, he had already undergone an intervention with the FUSS technique years ago with which he had been satisfied at the time but which over the years turned out not to be enough to maintain his capillary density.

After meeting with our team, they were able to verify that their scalp was suitable for a second intervention, since even with the area that could not be touched after the intervention with the FUSS technique, about 2000 follicular units could still be extracted, which would guarantee a good redensification of the frontal and upper area of ​​the scalp.

The technique used this time would be the FUE or Follicular Unit Extraction technique with a sapphire-tipped scalpel, to ensure greater redensification and cause less bleeding during the operation. 

Once the preoperative rules were communicated, all that remained was to wait for the day of the intervention.

The Days Before: Preparing for a Graft

Francisco knew that preparatory guidelines are something to take seriously, as they can greatly influence the surgery process.

15 days before

During the 15 days prior to the intervention, Francisco followed to the letter the instructions of the medical team as to what medication he could take and what treatments to suspend if they were incompatible.

In addition, he knew that he could not do sports to avoid excessive bleeding during surgery, since if you continue to practice sports regularly until the intervention, the work is more complicated since a large amount of blood does not allow the area to be seen clearly. to intervene. 

Francisco was also attentive to whether he had dandruff or itchy scalp, since these are factors to discuss with the clinic team.

7 days before

During the previous 7 days, Francisco did not drink alcoholic beverages or stimulants of any kind, such as coffee or beverages with theine.

1 day before surgery

The day before, he had to take the medication that our team had indicated, to have his scalp ready for the intervention. 

The same day of the intervention

When the day of the hair transplant finally arrived, Francisco had a normal breakfast avoiding coffee or stimulating drinks. 

In addition, he washed his hair only with shampoo, as we had indicated in the clinic, since other types of gels or lotions that could leave traces on the scalp should not be used.

In addition, Francisco knew that he should come with a shirt-type garment, which could be fastened and unbuttoned so that he would not have to put his clothes on over his head, with the risk that this entails that some follicular unit may be damaged.

Sensations during hair grafting

Once at the clinic, Francisco was calm and encouraged by the intervention, since he had the security of knowing that he was in good hands.

Confidence in the medical team is key and Francisco knew that he was in the hands of great professionals with extensive experience in the hair sector behind his back.

In addition, the transparency of our team, by explaining the graft stages step by step and knowing at all times in which phase they managed to not get impatient.

Postoperative of a hair graft 

As with the preoperative rules, a series of rules must be followed in the postoperative period so that the hair graft evolves in the best way as well as to ensure that the scalp recovers as soon as possible.

These rules were provided to Francisco by our medical team and following them to the letter makes his postoperative much more bearable and pleasant.

24 hour cure

The day after the intervention, our team was waiting for you in the clinic to proceed with the first cure, in which the hair was washed and a specific cream was applied to the donor area to help it heal. 

10 day cure

After 10 days, Francisco returned to the clinic again to proceed with the scabbing. At the same time that the scalp is washed, a specific shampoo is applied with which, by means of a light massage, the scabs that have formed in the receiving area can be detached.
